After a continental breakfast, visit the Huntington Museum of Art, a museum and cultural center dedicated to art, education, and nature.

This afternoon, visit Heritage Farm Museum & Village, home to more than 15 historic log structures, including five log cabin inns, seven award-winning museums, and an artisan center. Experience early pioneer life through exhibits, traditional folk crafts, and interactive demonstrations. You may also see artisans practicing time-honored Appalachian crafts.

Following your visit, enjoy another included dinner at an area restaurant.

Wednesday, October 13 – Amtrak Through the New River Gorge

Following a continental breakfast, check out and travel to the train station to board Amtrak’s Cardinal for an unforgettable journey through the New River Gorge.

Travel by rail from Huntington to White Sulphur Springs while enjoying views of rugged mountains, abandoned coal towns, waterfalls, rushing rivers, and whitewater rapids. Upon arriving in White Sulphur Springs, enjoy lunch on your own.

Later, meet your local guide for a walking tour of historic Lewisburg. The tour includes a visit to the North House Museum, where exhibits reveal the diverse history and culture of the Greenbrier Valley.

After the tour, travel to your hotel, check in, and relax before dinner on your own in the area.

Thursday, October 14 – The Greenbrier Bunker and Homeward Bound

Enjoy a continental breakfast before checking out and departing for the famous Greenbrier resort. Here, you’ll tour the massive Cold War bunker secretly constructed beneath the resort’s West Virginia Wing.

Construction on the 112,544-square-foot bunker began in 1958. Located 720 feet inside the hillside, the facility was completed in 1961 and maintained in constant readiness to house members of Congress during a national emergency.

Following this fascinating tour, board the motorcoach and begin the journey home with lasting memories of West Virginia’s scenery, Appalachian heritage, historic communities, and remarkable secrets.
