Itinerary
Monday, June 7 – Welcome to Mayberry
Depart this morning aboard your spacious motorcoach and travel into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to Mount Airy, North Carolina—Andy Griffith’s hometown.
Upon arrival, enjoy an included lunch at Snappy Lunch, mentioned several times on The Andy Griffith Show and a favorite of Andy Griffith during his high school years.
After lunch, meet your guide for a tour of the charming town that inspired the fictional community of Mayberry. See familiar sights such as the Courthouse and Jail, Floyd’s City Barber Shop, Andy’s childhood home, and Wally’s Service Station.
Conclude the tour with a visit to the Historic Earle Theatre and its Old-Time Music Heritage Hall, celebrating the musicians whose work helped shape Surry County’s musical heritage. You’ll also enjoy a discussion about Andy Griffith’s first film, A Face in the Crowd. Afterward, check into your hotel and enjoy an included dinner at a local restaurant.
Tuesday, June 8 – The Life and Legacy of Andy Griffith
After breakfast, visit the Andy Griffith Playhouse for a behind-the-scenes tour and learn how its stage productions come to life.
Continue to the Andy Griffith Museum, featuring hundreds of items from Griffith’s life and career in theater, film, and music. View original props, costumes, wardrobe pieces, and other artifacts from The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock. You’ll also have time to explore the gardens and take photographs beside the TV Land statue of Andy and Opie.
Next, visit the Siamese Twins Museum to learn the remarkable story of Eng and Chang Bunker, who achieved worldwide fame before settling with their families near Mount Airy.
Enjoy free time in Downtown Mount Airy for lunch on your own and independent exploration. Later, tour the Gertrude Smith Victorian House, which offers a glimpse of life at the turn of the 20th century.
Following an included dinner, return to the Andy Griffith Museum for a special behind-the-scenes program. Join Professor Neal Brower for a discussion of the beloved television series and its creative process, followed by a viewing of a classic episode.
Wednesday, June 9 – From Mayberry to Lucytown
After breakfast, check out and depart for Jamestown, New York—Lucille Ball’s hometown.
After checking into your hotel, visit the Lucy-Desi Museum for a special included dinner in the Tropicana Room, a recreation of Ricky Ricardo’s famous Manhattan nightclub. Enjoy a themed meal and an episode of I Love Lucy in this nostalgic setting.
Thursday, June 10 – Lucille Ball and the National Comedy Center
After breakfast, meet your guide for a Lucy Town Tour and discover Jamestown through Lucille Ball’s eyes. See the house where she was born, her childhood home, theaters where she performed, colorful murals celebrating her life, and her final resting place.
This afternoon, visit the National Comedy Center, a state-of-the-art museum dedicated to telling the story of comedy in America. Interactive exhibits and exclusive collections take you on a journey through comedy history, from vaudeville to the present day.
Tonight, board the Chautauqua Belle for an included dinner cruise on beautiful Chautauqua Lake. Relax and enjoy the scenery aboard this historic steamboat-style vessel.
Friday, June 11 – Pittsburgh and the Three Rivers
After breakfast, check out and travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for a guided two-hour tour of the city. Discover highlights from both the old and new Pittsburgh while exploring the famous Three Rivers region.
After the tour, continue to your overnight hotel in West Virginia. Please pack an overnight bag, as luggage handling is not included tonight. Dinner will be on your own.
Saturday, June 12 – Homeward Bound
Following breakfast, check out and begin the journey home. Relax aboard the motorcoach and share memories of Mayberry, Lucytown, classic television, American comedy, and the unforgettable hometowns of Andy Griffith and Lucille Ball.
